Banks of windows open the house to the light, water, sand dunes and grasses with trees as a passive and ever-changing solar screen.

The footprint for this house, built in 2003 on Lake Michigan near Manistee, MI, preserves the ravines, native vegetation and sand slopes of the site. The bank of trees at the crest of the dune tempers the effects of sun and wind on the lakeward window wall.
